AUTOMATED PLANT WATERING SYSTEM

&

BUILD YOUR OWN ROBOTIC ARM

This is my very first coding class that I attended. My mummy found out through POSB Smart Buddy FB and sent me for a 3 days workshop. I immediately fell in love with it. This started my first ever coding journey.

In the Plant Watering System workshop, I learnt to create my own smart potted plant that can automatically detect the low moisture level when the soil is dry and activate a water pump to water the plant. This maker-themed programme exposed me to the interaction of both software and hardware. I have also started learning the basics of electricity, circuitry and electrical components such as sensors, transistor and LED lights. It was exciting to program the microchip through drag-and-drop functions on the Makeblock platform. From this exposure, I appreciate how a project alone can combine the 5 different interdisciplinary subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (S.T.E.A.M) into a working product.

It was extremely challenging as this was new to me but I love it. When I got the hang of it, suddenly I discovered my new interest and this is something I want to learn more about. Then I asked for the Robotic Arm workshop subsequently. Similarly, it applied S.T.E.A.M. into the project. The only difference is it uses Arduino instead for coding.

I started with constructing a website; then used a 3D modelling software to design how I want my robotic to work. After that, I wrote a program to activate the robot.
