Welcome to my CODING JOURNEY
Kode It, Sparkies ! 2019

This is my first coding competition that I participated in.

Through this competition, I was exposed to programming languages such as HTML, CSS & JavaScript, empowering me with the ability to create my very first website. I use the platform BSD (Build Something Different), an e-learning platform that provided a step-by-step, independent learning for me to master the syntaxes of the 3 programming languages and create meaningful and interactive web development projects. I learn about heading, image, anchor tags in HTML, advanced properties like padding, margin and keyframes in CSS and alert, prompt and getElementById in JavaScript.
Through this exposure, I got the opportunity to code like real developers and not just drag-and-drop, making me appreciate the importance of syntaxes for codes to run properly. I have also learnt to enjoy the process of debugging, finding errors in his own codes to ensure that the entire program can run smoothly. To me, the process of debugging equates to finding the missing piece in a puzzle.
I learnt how to code with HTML and CSS and then get to design and build my own website. The objective is to acquire logical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through fun coding. This is the first time I get to experience project management and learn to work with people that I meet for the first time.

In the project, my role is a programmer. My task was to create a presentation and website. After completing them, I was asked to join the team to create the prototype.
Day 1 at Shangri-La: After introduction to my teammates, we dived right into the basics of coding with CSS and HTML. We practised what we learnt by building our very own website. Problem tasks were also given as part of the hackathon.

We also took a tour of Shangri-La Hotel Singapore . In the tour, we learnt more about hotel business which set us up for our proposal to the issues they faced.

Day 2
We started the day with our teammates. This was the first time I got to work with new friends on projects. I was worried as I do not like conflicts and not sure how it will turn out.
We brainstormed innovative ideas to address the main theme of Smart Nation and how technology can be used to improve our daily lives. However, we were surprised by a secondary task, to showcase Shangri-La as a staycation destination.

Day 3 at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
With just three and a half hours, we have to put together a prototype and presentation to bring our idea to life.

We used materials provided to build our model. We have to perform various job roles, managing different aspects of the project. And my role as programmer is to create and design a website.

Working as a group in preparation for the big presentation, we were required to address two themes: The Best of Shangri-La and Smart Nation: Hospitality. We came up with an idea for an app, service and device that supports: Sustainability, Efficiency, and Emergency.

Our parents were invited to see our presentation. There were also a panel of judges whom we need to present our innovative idea and had to impress them with our presentation and model.

Although our group did not win, I had so much fun and learning something new. What I enjoyed most was the challenge of programming and creating the website
